Just one of my success stories
I received this letter from a constituent
and i took great interest in what he was trying to achieve. So me being me! i
took on the project. It has been a great journey helping the Sea Scouts and Cubs
along their journey. When i delivered on this project that Mr Fisher had placed
on my lap, i had a great feeling of achievement. I am the Chairman of Wicklow
Motor Yacht Club, and i used my power within the Club to affiliate The Cubs and
Sea scouts. They now go to sea with the help of our members and their boats.
I have provided the Sea Scouts and Cubs with a patch of land free of charge to camp and carry out Scouting activities.
Please read Mr Fishers letter, and you will see i mean business when i take on a project to benefit the community.
They had looked everywhere for help and were fobbed off. Please remember i need a Number 1 Vote to carry out more duties
in the community for kids.
Please read letter below.

Dear
Michael,
Many
thanks for meeting with me recently. I enjoyed our discussion about youth
activities in and around Wicklow town.
I just wish to make my points in
writing, to ensure that you won’t forget my issues.
1 As you are aware I am
a scout leader in 4th Wicklow Sea scout troop, based in Wicklow town. We do all
of our fund raising ourselves as there are no grants or similar available. Our
group consists of boys and girls from age 6 to 18 and all the leaders are
voluntary, we do it because we enjoy it. We have over 100 members and we need
to buy equipment such as tents, canoes etc. so that the kids can do more
activities. Our major item on our wish list is a plot of land close to the town
so that we can build our own purpose built hall, rather than rent at a very
prohibitive cost. The scout group in non denominational and has a great code of
ethics. As such it is a valuable asset to have in a
community.
2
My wife is a brownie leader and they, although a smaller group, also have
funding issues.
3
What are your policies regarding the promoting and funding of youth groups in
the town / county?
4
What action will you take to promote and help groups such as scouts, brownies
and other voluntary groups to achieve their goal of having their own premises.
Sports clubs are all well and good but have membership fees and are thus self
funding. We need land set aside for us so we can build our
den.
5
What is happening with the proposed move of many sports clubs out to brides
head? Could we be allocated some land in that particular
plan?
6
We are looking at doing some projects such as rebuilding canoes, boats etc that
people may donate but unfortunately we have to decline their kind offers due to
lack of a suitable premises.
7
When it comes to the crunch, because we are self funding, groups such as ours
are now at risk of collapse, thus leaving 100 kids with noting to do on a Monday
night or at weekends. Do we really need more teens hanging about doing
nothing?
I
would appreciate a prompt response as I know the elections are coming sooner
than we thought.
If
your plans and ideas are satisfactory, I will certainly speak to parents of our
scouts which could result in perhaps 200 votes. Lets see what you can do for us,
because we seem to have been forgotten about by past
administrations.
Many
thanks
